Another topic suggested to me concerned erotophonophilia (sexual attraction to murder). At first I was confused about how I'll approach it, because I never researched it before, but I started googling and realized I know what exactly I want to talk about.
I'm an erotophonophile/autoerotophonophile myself, and I'm used to being able to openly talk about it in sex positive spaces. Usually, if people are ok with kinky sex being brought up at all, they're also ok with someone whose fantasies can wander into the field of extreme sadomasochism. This is a privilege quite a lot of paraphiliacs have that nepio-, pedo-, hebe-, and, to a degree, ephebophiles don't share. Media is strangely silent about these things, so people don't have the knee jerk reaction to it, and don't automatically connect it with sexual offenses, especially when explained that we don't want to offend and just explore our fantasies theoretically. There is some number of people who accuse us of anting to be serial killers, but these people also use “sadist” as a bad word, think porn is evil, and should not be counted.
But when I started trying to look up any medical information on erotophonophilia, I found that all of it is connected to violent offending.
“Current research defines lust murder (erotophonophilia) as a type of murder involving apparent sadistic actions based on sexually motivated behavior and its associated psychological desires (Arrigo & Purcell, 2001; Beauregard & Proulx, 2002; Brittain, 1970; Ferguson, White, Cherry, Lorenz, & Bhimani, 2003; Money, 1990)." (http://www.cambriapress.com/samplechapters/9781604976953sample.pdf )
“For many, erotophonophilia (or whichever definition you care to choose from the list above) is the most heinous of all paraphilias. Erotophonophiles have extreme violent fantasies and typically kill their victims during sex” (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/in-excess/201308/thrilling-killing-and-the-disgust-lust )
These are only two of the many. “Lust murder”, the commonly used synonym for erotophonophilia, makes me think about “child molestation” and “pedophilia” being used interchangeably. I found it's impossible to search for causes of erotophonophilia, because they're mixed with analysis of motivations of sex offending and murder. And I know that some decades ago all materials you could find on pedophilia looked just the same. It was negative public attention that made doctors interested and motivated them to look further. Erotophonophilia never had enough coverage to be interesting.
I suppose there will be more progress in this sphere too, after all, modern definition of a paraphilic disorder as something that either distresses you or has led to sexual offending (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/322215673_Paraphilias_and_the_ICD-11_Progress_but_Still_Logically_Inconsistent ) also applies to erotophonophilia. But so far small amount of information about this paraphilia both makes it invisible for haters and difficult to defend in serious circumstances. I'm impatient for more development.
